Wolf Island Anchorage, TN - Day 364

September 12, 2016
Day 364

We left Pebble Isle Marina before the fresh cinnamon buns they provide were ready because we had a long day planned.  Sharon had gone to the office to get ice and was invited to "set a spell and talk" while waiting for the buns to be finished, but she declined.

Along the way we passed a number of "tows", this one is carrying a "Taintor" gate used at dams to control water flow.  We suspected that this one was on the way to the Olmstead Dam on the Ohio that was still under construction.

We also passed a number of developments along the waterway.  Apparently in these developments you buy a lot, put an RV on it, build a carport over the RV, and use it as a retreat until you eventually build a house on stilts.

We began to see some pretty scenery along the way as well.

We found a nice anchorage after traveling 97 miles behind an island on the Tennessee River called "Wolf Island" on the charts.  We didn't see any wolves, but the anchorage was very pretty and quiet.

When we arrived the temperature was 100 degrees with a heat index of 103.  Luckily the generator had been repaired at Green Turtle Bay so we were able to run it for a couple of hours before the sun went down so we could have air conditioning.  Once the sun went down the temperature dropped and we were able to sleep with the screens in and no air conditioning.

Since we were inside out of the heat I decided to scan the TV and see if we could get any channels.  Exactly one came up, a gospel bluegrass station.  Very apropos for western Tennessee!  We both read books n our Kindles instead.

Jake and Kimi are learning to use a piece of AstroTurf on the bow of the boat to "go out" so they don't have to get off of the boat for bathroom breaks.  Although reluctant, they are getting it figured out, making anchoring more feasible for us than it has bee until this point.
